CMA CGM orders $5.8m BWMS for 17 vessels

CMA CGM will install ballast water management systems (BWMS) made by compatriot provider Bio-Sea on 17 of its containerships at a cost of more than €5m ($5.8m).
The ultraviolet treatment systems were compliant with requirements from both US Coast Guard and International Maritime Organization, Bio-Sea said in a release.
They would be placed on nine 22,000 teu newbuildings and eight existing 9,000 teu vessels.
The ultra large containerships, equipped with duel-fuel engine, were ordered by the French line late last year in China at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding and Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. Deliveries were scheduled between late 2019 and 2020.
Bio-Sea added that the deal represented great potential for the company to win more BWMS orders from CMA CGM in future.
